COVID-19 Update March 30, 2020

March 30, 2020

To our patients, an update on the current situation at Vision Care Specialists.

First and foremost, we hope this finds you all well, healthy and free from COVID-19 related illnesses. Our thoughts go out to each and every one of our patients and their families during this time. Secondly, we are happy to report that our staff and their families are well while they stay in the safe confines of their homes.

There are some things we would like you to know. We are still here for you. If you are having any vision or eye-related problems, please call our office. We may not be there to answer the call, but rest assured we are checking the voice mails multiple times throughout the day and will get back to you as soon as possible. If it is urgent, please reach out to the doctor on call at 774-571-0505. Not all emergencies need to be seen in the office, but we will make ourselves available to you after triaging your situation. We do have the capability of examining certain conditions remotely via Telemedicine through Skype or FaceTime so please call with any concerns.

We have always strived to provide the best customer service and will continue to do so. You are our top priority. Many of you have reached out asking how you can help us during the mandated shutdown. That is truly amazing. One way you can help is by ordering your contact lenses through us. Simply call to let us know you want to place an order and we’ll take care of the rest. Or you can order through our online store, which you will find at www.e-dr.com/visioncarespecialists. We can have all products delivered to your home and we will verify all orders before they ship to ensure that you get the correct prescription.

If your glasses were ordered before we had to shut down, rest assured that we will ship them to you at no cost. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer in person adjustments at this time, but we will be happy to make any necessary adjustments when we reopen. Replacement glasses or parts in need of repair can be ordered and shipped to you as well, just give us a call.

Please know that we look forward to seeing you again soon and will do our best to keep you updated as things change in the coming days and weeks.

All our best,

Dr. Levine

COVID-19 UPDATE MARCH 17, 2020

Per the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control, the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists and in alignment with Governor Baker’s Declaration of a State of Emergency during these unprecedented times, we will be altering our business hours significantly. We all have a role to play in slowing the spread of the Corona Virus and therefore, starting Wednesday, March 18th and extending to Monday, April 6th, 2020, we are restricting our appointment schedule to patients experiencing medical eye emergencies only (i.e flashing lights, new onset floaters, light sensitivity, red eye, pain, sudden vision loss).

If you have a routine or non-urgent appointment scheduled, we will be canceling that appointment to be rescheduled at a later date. However, if you are experiencing an emergency, we are here for you and will continue to maintain the highest standards of infection prevention so we can safely care for you.

Patients who already have eyeglasses or contact lenses on order will be given the option of receiving their products through the US Mail. With the understanding that eyeglasses may need adjustments, we will offer those services again as soon as we are able to and apologize for the inconvenience. We will also continue to make it possible for current contact lens wearers to order contact lenses. The contact lenses will be mailed to your home address. All materials will need to be paid for in full, via credit card over the phone or our online bill payment portal, prior to pick-up or new order placement. In addition, our online contact lens ordering site is available from our home page on this website.

All non-urgent questions or requests must be made by either calling the office at 508-481-8558 and leaving a voicemail or by emailing us at Info@greatvisioncare.com. Specific optical questions should be emailed to Lab@greatvisioncare.com. The voice mail and emails will be checked several times a day and you will be contacted as soon as possible.

Any urgent medical emergency questions should be called in to the doctor on call at 774-571-0505 where you will be prompted to leave a voice mail. We will attempt to a call back within 1 hour.

We are currently asking patients not to visit our office if experiencing symptoms of sore throat, fever, coughing or shortness of breath. This also applies if you have traveled out of the country or have been exposed to someone presumed to or known to be infected with the virus.

We will continue to send updates as they become available.

COVID-19 UPDATED INFORMATION 3/16/2020

COVID-19 INFORMATION (UPDATED March 16, 2020)

To Our Patients:

Your safety is our top priority and we are writing to update you on our current policies regarding the Coronavirus. As you are aware, there is a worldwide spread of the virus and we are doing everything we can to keep our patients and staff healthy and safe. We are monitoring guidance from the CDC and other authorities daily.

At this time, we remain open, but are taking multiple precautions for the safety of our patients, their families and our staff.

To protect our patients and our team, we kindly ask that you do not come in and call to reschedule your appointment if:

  • you or anyone in your family has a cough, cold or flu-like symptoms
  • you or anyone in your family, workplace or friends may have been exposed to COVID-19 either from within the US or outside the US
  • you or anyone in your family have traveled outside the US in the past 30 days

We have waived our cancellation fees for these situations.

We have augmented our usual meticulous infection control protocols with additional measures, including public surface disinfection every hour and removal of all reading materials from our waiting rooms. We have instituted enhanced exam room and testing equipment disinfection and protocols.

Additionally, we kindly ask that when you do arrive for your appointment, you come to the office either alone or with not more than 1 additional family member or friend. If you must bring multiple family members, we ask that you either have them stay in the car and not enter the office or reschedule your appointment.

We will continue to monitor developments and will be in touch with additional updates as necessary. Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions.

Thank you for the trust you have placed in us and for contributing to our efforts at Vision Care Specialists.

Our best,

Dr. John Abbondanza

Dr. Paul Levine
