John M. Abbondanza, O.D., F.C.O.V.D.
Dr. Abbondanza graduated from Milford High School and from Boston College (Go Eagles!) with a degree in Psychology. He graduated with honors in the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society from the New England College of Optometry, where he was appointed Adjunct Clinical Professor of Optometry in 1991. He is a past President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists, where he was the youngest President in the almost 100 year history of the organization. Dr. John has also served on the Suffolk Superior Court Medical Malpractice Tribunal. He lectures extensively to optometrists, educators, occupational therapists, and other groups on how Behavioral Optometry helps people in their daily lives. Dr. John is also certified in Corneal Refractive Therapy, where contact lenses are used to reshape the cornea as an alternative to eyeglasses or LASIK. He is in private practice at Vision Care Specialists in Southboro with a specialization in vision related learning problems.
Dr. John is a 20 year member of the American Optometric Association and a clinical associate of the Optometric Extension Program (OEP), which is the national organization of Behavioral Optometrists. He is board certified in Vision Therapy as a Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development (COVD). Dr. John serves on the Northeast Regional Congress of Optometrists Committee where he was recently appointed Chair of their Clinical Seminar. He is also on the Budget Committee of the COVD, and is the Massachusetts Chairman of the OEP. Additionally, Dr. John is the Massachusetts leader of the national InfantSEE program.
Dr. John enjoys singing as a cantor and is in the choir at St. Rose of Lima parish. He lives in Northboro with his wife Jini and daughter Nicole.
Paul E. Levine, O.D., F.A.A.O., F.I.A.O.
Dr. Levine graduated from Stoughton High School and attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In 1992, he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology. He then received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997 from the New England College of Optometry where he graduated with honors as a four-year member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. He was awarded the 1997 New England College of Optometry Award for Overall Clinical Excellence and the 1997 Bernell Award for Clinical Excellence in Pediatric Optometry.
Dr. Levine completed a one year residency in Primary Care Optometry at the South Boston Community Health Center in conjunction with the Boston Medical Center. Additionally, he completed internships at the FDR VA Hospital in Montrose, NY, Dorchester House Clinic, South Boston Community Health Center, and New England Eye Institute’s Pediatric and Binocular Vision Specialty Clinic.
Dr. Levine has a special interest in Orthokeratology (OrthoK). OrthoK is the science of reshaping the cornea of the eye without surgery to improve vision and virtually eliminate the need for day-time contact lenses and glasses. He is CRT (Corneal Refractive Therapy) and VST (Vision Shaping Treatment) certified. He is also a Certified Wave Designer. Wave lenses are custom made to fit your eyes perfectly. In fact, no 2 lenses are alike. Wave designs can be made spherical, toric, multifocal and for customized Orthokeratology. Dr. Levine is the only Certified Wave Designer in MetroWest. He actively practices Myopia Control and specializes in difficult-to-fit contact lenses including Scleral and Gas permeable.
Dr. Levine is a Fellow of the International Academy of Orthokeratology (IAO). He is Vice President of the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control, the US affiliate of the IAO. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (AAO), a member of the Massachusetts Society of Optometrists, the American Optometric Association, AOA Low Vision Rehabilitation Section and Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.
Dr. Levine is a big sports fan (provided the teams are from New England). He also dedicates his free time to his family and enjoys a good sushi meal as much as the next guy. Dr. Levine plays guitar and is currently in a band called Gorilla Cookies (don’t let the name fool you). A Massachusetts native, he resides in Franklin with his wife Hilary, son Micah, daughter Shea and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Rusty.
Lisa, RDO, ABOC, NCLC
Lisa grew up in Oakham, MA and is a graduate of the Quabbin Regional Jr.Sr. High School. She attended Worcester State College and earned her Opticianry degree from the Worcester Technical Institute. She is a licensed dispensing optician.
Lisa is a member of the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) and the National Contact Lens Examiners (NCLE) and is both ABO and NCLE certified. She is also a member of the Opticians Association of Massachusetts.
After raising her three children, Trish began her career in the eye care profession. For over seven years she worked as an Optometric technician and then turned her direction toward Opticianry. Trish is currently in her third year in the apprenticeship program and is soon to be ABO certified. She is a member of the Opticians Association of America.
Trish is also a freelance writer and has been published in The Community Advocate, Today’s Parent, The Boston Globe and the MetroWest Daily News. She is also a song writer and has written several songs for independent artists. Music is her greatest enjoyment other than watching her children become strong independent adults.
Trish resides in Shrewsbury where she continues to write songs and essays on the life around her.
